Sometimes getting a credit card can help
your credit score. Here is how
35% of your Fico Score is based on
your debt to credit ratio. Mainly Credit Cards.
Example:
If you have a credit card with a
$2000 limit and you owe $1600 your debt to credit ratio is very poor.
Your Percentage of credit owed to available credit is
80%. To the credit bureaus, you look like you are in a bad credit
situation. Your score will reflect this, as 35% of your score deals
with your debt to credit ratio.
Now, if you applied for one of
these very easy to get credit cards for $3000 and got approved, your
credit to debt ratio would increase significantly.
Now you have $5000 in credit and owe $1600. Your debt to
credit ratio is now 32%.
Now remember 35% of your score
is based on debt to credit ratio. So your Fico score would jump up a
significant amount. This can also be done by raising the limits on your
existing cards.
PS: Don't worry about the
inquiry on your credit report. Inquires are such a small percentage of
your credit report.
